LASTMA Warns Eating, Drinking, and Smoking While Driving Could Lead to Jail Time
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a warning that eating, drinking, or smoking while driving could lead to imprisonment for motorists.
LASTMA emphasized that these actions are considered a punishable offense under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018. This information was shared in a post on the authority’s official X handle on Wednesday, April 9.
The post on X reads, “Smoking, drinking and eating while driving is an offence according to the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018.”
LASTMA highlighted that the law is designed to promote road safety by reducing distractions for drivers. Under the law, offenders may face penalties including vehicle impoundment, three months of imprisonment, or six months of community service, depending on the severity of the offense and the judicial outcome.
