The campaign organizations for the All Progressives Congress and Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osun State engaged in a public dispute regarding the alleged release of dangerous criminals. The APC campaign council, led by Adebayo Adeleke, claimed that Governor Adeleke utilized his power of mercy to free several notorious individuals over the past two months. The APC official specifically identified several names, including Taoreed Ademola, alleging these people were freed to incite violence before the upcoming August 15 election. Furthermore, the APC raised concerns about potential plots to use Amotekun operatives against their members.
In response, the Imole Campaign Council, represented by Deputy Director-General Kolapo Alimi, dismissed these claims as fabrications. Alimi asserted that the Governor has not utilized his prerogative of mercy at any point in the last two years. The Imole Council further criticized the police for alleged bias and human rights abuses, specifically targeting the reappointment of CP Ibrahim Gotan as Osun State Commissioner of Police. Spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi claimed that CP Gotan has acted in a partisan manner against Accord Party members and requested that the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, ensure neutrality and provide assurances of a peaceful electoral process.
