Youth Arise Movement Calls for Sowore’s Release, Criticizes DSS Conduct

The Youth Arise Movement has demanded the immediate release of Omoyele Sowore, criticizing the DSS for alleged intimidation tactics against activists.

The Youth Arise Movement (YAM) has formally requested the liberation of Omoyele Sowore, the former African Action Congress presidential candidate and activist. Through a Tuesday statement released by National Publicity Secretary Mubarak Salisu, the group highlighted their disapproval of the ongoing intimidation tactics directed at Sowore.

YAM argues that these reported actions threaten core democratic principles, including political participation and freedom of speech. The organization alleges that state security forces are being weaponized to silence critics who speak out against corruption, economic instability, and government policy failures.

Emphasizing the importance of constitutional integrity, the movement urged the Department of State Services (DSS) to align their enforcement tactics with fundamental human rights. YAM reminded authorities that the Nigerian Constitution explicitly protects peaceful assembly and association.

The group appealed to labor unions, student organizations, and other civil society members to remain alert in safeguarding national democratic values. By framing the pressure on Sowore as an affront to all citizens, YAM reiterated its commitment to advocating for accountability and ensuring that dissenting voices can participate in governance without fear of reprisal.
