Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, recently stated that finishing the stalled Millennium Tower in Abuja will cost between 300 and 400 billion Naira. He emphasized that this financial burden is too significant for the FCT Administration to manage independently.
Addressing the press on Thursday following an inspection of various road projects, including the Collector Road CO1 and Arterial Road N1, Wike noted that the initiative was originally commissioned during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration. Because of its massive cost, he argues that the federal government should treat the tower as a national project rather than relying solely on the FCT’s limited budget.
The minister warned that prioritizing the tower under the current funding structure would force the suspension of other necessary infrastructure projects across the capital. While discussions with the president regarding a shift in status are ongoing, Wike remains committed to ensuring that all other current FCTA projects are finished by the year’s end.
