Wike Criticizes Cardinal Onaiyekan for Alleged Bias Against Tinubu Administration

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has criticized Cardinal John Onaiyekan, urging religious leaders to maintain neutrality and acknowledge government successes rather than strictly providing negative feedback.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has urged religious figures to acknowledge government achievements rather than focusing solely on negative critiques. Addressing the recent remarks made by John Cardinal Onaiyekan, the Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, regarding the current administration, Wike argued that religious leaders should avoid aligning themselves with political opposition.

During a media briefing, Wike clarified that he is not opposed to constructive feedback, noting that external input helps the government identify key areas for improvement. However, he expressed concern that when religious leaders display clear partiality, their objective influence is compromised. He specifically mentioned that Onaiyekan’s stance is well-documented and widely recognized.

Wike further emphasized that a balanced approach is essential for leadership. He stated that failing to highlight positive government actions while consistently highlighting shortcomings creates a perception of political opposition, which diminishes the credibility of the criticism provided.
