Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, believes that selecting Rotimi Amaechi as a vice-presidential candidate would negatively impact Atiku Abubakar’s electoral success in 2027. During a radio interview in Port Harcourt, Wike argued that Amaechi lacks the influence required to deliver votes in Rivers State and the broader South-South region.
Wike highlighted Amaechi’s past political track record, noting his failure to secure a successor as governor or deliver significant results for Muhammadu Buhari during previous presidential bids. He emphasized that voters in the region are unlikely to support Amaechi due to his well-documented role in opposing former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 election.
The Minister suggested that Amaechi’s history of working against a South-South presidency creates a major obstacle for his candidacy. According to Wike, these past actions make it nearly impossible for Amaechi to effectively promote Atiku’s agenda to the local electorate.
