Umahi addresses calls for his dismissal following employee death

Works Minister David Umahi states that President Tinubu instructed him to continue his duties despite public pressure for his removal following an employee’s death.

Minister of Works David Umahi has rejected demands for his removal from his ministerial position following the passing of a female employee, Mary Habila, at his personal home. In a video circulating online, the minister stated that President Bola Tinubu advised him to focus on national infrastructure development despite the controversy.

Umahi expressed disbelief that critics would politicize the death of one of his employees to lobby for his firing. He noted that the president dismissed these calls, instead urging him to continue with the government’s road construction projects.

Habila passed away in June, triggering significant backlash from the public and political figures who questioned the circumstances of the incident. While formal investigations into her death are ongoing, the final results have not yet been released.
