Uefa is preparing potential legal action against Fifa president Gianni Infantino regarding a controversial proposal to sell equity in major football tournaments to private financiers. The plan involved establishing a commercial entity known as Fifa Forward Enterprise to oversee events like the World Cup, allowing third parties to purchase minority stakes.
This initiative faced widespread backlash, with football authorities in Europe, North and Central America, and the Caribbean voicing their disapproval. Wales has since become the first country to formally retract support for Infantino’s presidency.
In a formal communication to Infantino, Uefa warned that it is weighing arbitration and regulatory complaints linked to the proposal. The governing body has also demanded that Fifa immediately secure all relevant documents and digital communications, overriding any standard internal policies regarding data deletion.
