President Bola Tinubu has honored the memory of Alhaji Ganiyu Kolapo Oseni, a veteran politician who served as his political mentor and longtime supporter. The President expressed profound grief, characterizing Oseni as a democratic pioneer and a dedicated administrator who significantly impacted Lagos State and the nation.
Highlighting Oseni’s historical influence, the President noted his service as the Organising Secretary for the Unity Party of Nigeria in Lagos during the Second Republic. He also credited Oseni with foundational work at the Lagos State Printing Corporation, an institution that recently honored him with a dedicated mosque.
Tinubu emphasized the personal nature of their bond, stating that Oseni was instrumental in his transition into politics, offering guidance that helped him secure a Senate seat and eventually the governorship of Lagos. The two were also colleagues in the fight against military rule and advocates for the mandate of the late Moshood Abiola following the 1993 presidential election.
The President revealed that several current administrative reforms are rooted in policies he and Oseni conceptualized during their years of friendship. Despite Oseni’s relocation to the United States in his final years, he remained a staunch supporter of Tinubu’s presidential bid. The President extended his condolences to the grieving family, offering prayers for Oseni to find peace in Aljanna.
