A shooting incident at the Bite of Seattle food festival, located near the iconic Space Needle, has resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left several others wounded. According to the Seattle Fire Department, the gunfire erupted around 18:00 local time on Sunday.
Mayor Katie Wilson confirmed that one individual has been arrested, while Assistant Chief of Police Tyrone Davis noted that a second suspect remains at large. Preliminary reports suggest the suspects were engaged in an exchange of gunfire. Two victims were pronounced dead at the site, and a third passed away after being transported to a medical facility. Among those injured is a two-year-old child.
Video footage circulating on social media captured attendees seeking refuge within the lobby of the Space Needle, hiding behind pillars as the situation unfolded. Four of the wounded victims were hospitalized in stable condition, while another individual declined medical transport.
Local and state officials have denounced the event as a display of senseless violence. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal expressed their condolences to the affected families. In the wake of the tragedy, the American flag atop the Space Needle was lowered to half-staff to honor the victims as the police investigation continues.
