There’s No Excuses Now This Season — Rooney Urges Amorim to Deliver Quick Results Amid Manchester United’s Slow Start

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has issued a stern message to current manager Ruben Amorim, stressing the urgent need for improved performances to prevent another underwhelming season.

United spent approximately £200 million on new players during the summer transfer window, but have managed only one point from their first two Premier League fixtures, raising early doubts among supporters and analysts.

Rooney expressed particular concern given the club’s poor showing in the previous 2024/25 season, where they finished a disappointing 15th — the lowest league position in their Premier League history.

“There are no excuses left for the manager this time around. He needs to start producing results — and fast,” Rooney said during his BBC podcast, The Wayne Rooney Show.

He added, “If things don’t change significantly by October or November, that’s when the real pressure kicks in. They had to start strong this season, and only picking up one point from six is concerning.”

The club’s significant summer investments brought in top-tier talent across multiple areas of the squad, reflecting the board’s determination to revive United’s fortunes under Amorim. However, with expectations high, Rooney warned that the manager’s honeymoon period may be short-lived unless performances and results improve swiftly.
