Families of 176 individuals abducted in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area are pleading for government intervention. These citizens have been held by terrorists for nearly six months. Reports indicate the captors have issued disturbing threats, claiming they will forcibly marry the young female hostages and kill the remaining captives if their demands go ignored.
Community members have managed to collect N155 million in ransom money through local donations. However, the abductors reportedly refused the payment, leaving the hostages trapped in inhumane conditions. Local resident Abdul Ibrahim expressed the families’ growing despair, noting that all traditional methods of negotiation and public protests have failed to secure the release of their loved ones.
Suleiman Bukata, the Dan Sardaukin Kaiama, has urged federal authorities to apply the same strategic rescue efforts seen in recent operations in Oyo State to the situation in Kwara. Meanwhile, Senator Adamu Aliero addressed the broader national security crisis, stating that the issue is not a lack of funding for the military but the extreme complexity of the threat. He reiterated his support for establishing state police forces to provide better localized security responses.
