The Sokoto State Government has formally rejected any association with a viral video featuring a self-described soothsayer, known as Mai Shaho. In the footage, the man performs a ritual involving a goat while making predictions about the 2027 governorship election. Abubakar Bawa, the Director General of Media and Publicity, issued a statement on Friday labeling any connection between this individual and the administration as entirely false.
Government officials emphasized that neither they nor the All Progressives Congress (APC) have any ties to the man or his actions. The administration maintains a firm commitment to democratic values, asserting that election outcomes are determined by the electorate at the ballot box rather than through mysticism or rituals. They explicitly dismissed suggestions that the video, which touches on a potential contest between Governor Ahmed Aliyu and ADC candidate Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, aligns with any state policy or strategy.
The state government characterized the video as a personal endeavor that does not reflect its political approach. Furthermore, authorities warned against behavior that fosters public distrust or superstition. The government has requested that the Sokoto State Hisbah Board and other relevant agencies investigate the incident, urging those involved to stop practices that contradict religious and moral standards.
