Six Super Eagles Players Donate ₦1 Million Each to Super Falcons Squad
Six members of the Super Eagles have each contributed ₦1 million to every player in the Super Falcons squad that won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The donors include team captain William Troost-Ekong, African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joe Ayodele-Aribo. Their gesture was confirmed in an official statement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau praised the donation, calling it an inspirational act for the Nigerian girl-child. He noted that the contribution adds to an already impressive array of rewards presented to the team during a state reception at Aso Rock in Abuja.
As previously announced by President Bola Tinubu, each Super Falcons player was awarded a national honour (Officer of the Order of the Niger), a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Estate, and $100,000 in cash.
Additionally, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum gifted ₦10 million each to all 24 players and their 11-member technical and administrative crew.
Describing the occasion as a landmark moment for women’s football in Nigeria, Gusau said, “Mr President has done what no leader before him had done. This action will serve as a fillip to draw out the girl-child in our country to seek greatness through legitimate ways.”
He emphasized that these combined gestures show the girl-child that excellence in sports—and in any noble field—is both achievable and recognized.
