A severe lightning strike has resulted in the deaths of six children working at a peanut farm in the Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The event took place during a intense rainstorm on Saturday afternoon in Dadiri Village.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama noted that the children were on a farm managed by Musa Maude when the strike occurred around 4:00 p.m. Following a report from Mallam Salau Iliya, the head of the local Civilian Joint Task Force, police arrived to discover nine unconscious victims. While three children recovered, six were declared deceased upon arrival at the Ganye Cottage Hospital.
The deceased victims were identified as Aliyu Suleiman, 10; Jafar Suleiman, 8; Abdurrahman Musa, 7; Bilkisu Jibrilla, 10; Musa Ahmadu, 9; and Auwalu Nuhu, 11. Their remains are currently at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy. Local authorities, specifically the Adamawa State Criminal Investigation Department, have launched an inquiry into the tragedy, which has left the local community in deep mourning.
