Shehu Sani, the former Senator for Kaduna Central, has voiced alarm regarding the proliferation of violent gangs in Kano State. While noting that the region is not currently plagued by terrorism or banditry, he emphasized that criminal syndicates remain a significant threat due to their involvement in robberies, physical assaults, and homicides.
Sharing his observations on Facebook this Tuesday, Sani detailed a specific incident he observed firsthand during a recent trip to Kano. He recounted seeing a young woman attacked while riding in a local tricycle, commonly called an A daidaita sahu. During this assault, the perpetrators stole her mobile device and inflicted physical injuries upon her.
The former lawmaker asserted that these criminal groups act with complete disregard for the law. He called upon local authorities to take firm measures to apprehend all offenders, explicitly stating that no distinction should be made between pro-government and anti-government factions. Sani expressed uncertainty about whether effective intervention will occur as the country approaches the upcoming general elections. His remarks arrive as Kano residents increasingly demand enhanced security protocols to combat the wave of urban crime.
