Ghanaian artist Shatta Wale recently expressed frustration regarding how his home country treats its performers. During an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he argued that while Nigerian entertainers are celebrated and well-compensated, their Ghanaian counterparts often lack recognition and face significant financial hardship.
Shatta Wale shared a personal story from his early career to illustrate this issue. Despite having achieved fame in Ghana, he struggled to make ends meet and frequently relied on his girlfriend at the time to provide him a place to stay at her parents’ house. He also noted that he often had to use taxis to travel to performance venues, a reality he claims remains common for many artists in Ghana today.
The singer emphasized that Ghanaian stars earn very little compared to Nigerian musicians. He concluded by encouraging his peers in the Ghanaian music industry to improve their professional standards and seek better valuation for their work by looking at the success of the Nigerian market.
