Pop icon Shakira has shared details regarding her selection of Grammy winner Burna Boy for the 2026 FIFA World Cup official anthem. During an interview on the Capital Evening Show, the Colombian singer explained that she needed a powerful male voice to accompany her on the track titled ‘Dai Dai’.
Shakira admitted to being fixated on securing the Nigerian musician, noting that his distinct energy and vocal prowess made him the ideal candidate. She stated that she reached out to him personally because she could not envision any other artist contributing to the project.
The collaboration has seen immense international success, shattering multiple records since its launch. ‘Dai Dai’ achieved the top spot on Spotify’s Global Music Video Chart and propelled Burna Boy to become the first African performer to lead the Apple Music Global Top Songs chart. Furthermore, the partnership contributed to Burna Boy reaching a milestone of 53 million monthly listeners on Spotify and 600 million on YouTube Music, while he also became the first African artist to headline the FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show.
