Seyi Awolowo, a participant in the 2019 season of Big Brother Naija, recently shared that he initially attempted to conceal his famous lineage while entering the competition. The grandson of the late political figure Chief Obafemi Awolowo stated he preferred to be evaluated based on his individual personality rather than his ancestry.
During an appearance on The Nigeria Meter Podcast, Awolowo explained that his strategy was abandoned the moment show host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu announced his full name on stage. He had hoped to compete simply as ‘Seyi’ to avoid any pre-existing biases or expectations tied to his family name.
Addressing claims that his background provided an unfair edge, the reality star maintained that he underwent the same rigorous selection process as everyone else. He recounted waiting in line with a friend and noted that one of his stepbrothers also attempted to audition but arrived past the deadline. Awolowo secured his spot on the show early on February 3, 2019, after a long wait, eventually becoming one of the most discussed personalities in the house.
