Arise TV host Rufai Oseni has publicly criticized the All Progressives Congress for its contradictory stance on Cardinal John Onaiyekan’s recent comments about the nation’s condition. Oseni highlighted that the ruling party frequently praised the cleric as a champion of truth during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, yet now attacks him for offering similar critiques under President Bola Tinubu.
Reflecting on a 2014 visit to the Presidential Villa, Oseni reminded viewers that the APC once championed the former Archbishop of Abuja as a voice of reason. He noted that party members at the time eagerly amplified the Cardinal’s criticisms to gain political leverage. Oseni argued that the current backlash against the clergyman stems from political loyalty rather than a genuine disagreement with his observations on Nigeria’s economic struggles.
During his broadcast, Oseni challenged the APC to explain why the Cardinal is no longer viewed as a courageous figure. He suggested that those currently disparaging the religious leader are merely protecting their political interests and paymasters. Oseni concluded by emphasizing that the economic hardship in the country is undeniable, making the party’s dismissive reaction appear profoundly hypocritical.
