Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), is facing significant public criticism after attempting to justify the cost of government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During an appearance on the Channels Television program Sunday Politics, Adedeji asserted that the President maintains a frugal lifestyle, claiming that Tinubu walks from his residence to his office and only uses a vehicle when heading to the airport.
Adedeji further defended the administration by stating that the President eats only once a day and has not traveled internationally for the past three months. When challenged regarding the size of the presidential convoy and the presence of luxury vehicles like Escalades, the NRS chairman dismissed the concerns, questioning the affordability of such vehicles and suggesting that the focus on the President’s lifestyle is unnecessary. He also emphasized that Tinubu remains dedicated to reviewing government documents.
These remarks have ignited a wave of negative reactions on the social media platform X. Various users expressed frustration, labeling the comments as insulting to public intelligence and out of touch with the current economic climate. This incident follows previous instances where Adedeji faced scrutiny over his public statements regarding the national economy.
