Presidency slams Peter Obi following recent media appearance

The Nigerian Presidency has criticized Peter Obi for his recent television interview, calling him a political nomad and rejecting his characterization of his political career and the 2023 election results.

The Nigerian Presidency has issued a sharp rebuke regarding a recent interview given by Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi on Channels Television. Officials claim the former Anambra State governor misrepresented his political history and continues to reject the results of the 2023 presidential election.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, labeled the interview a public relations failure. Through a statement on X, Onanuga argued that the appearance failed to bolster Obi’s standing for the upcoming 2027 elections. He specifically challenged Obi’s attempt to equate his own history of switching political affiliations with President Tinubu’s career. According to Onanuga, Tinubu stayed within a consistent progressive ideological sphere while moving between groups like the SDP, AD, AC, ACN, and the APC.

In contrast, Onanuga characterized Obi as a political nomad. He highlighted Obi’s path through the APGA, PDP, Labour Party, and now the NDC, suggesting that Obi abandons organizations once they no longer fulfill his personal ambitions rather than staying to help build them. Onanuga concluded that Obi missed a chance to reconcile with the 2023 election results during his conversation with the host.
