Edet George, a resident of Ikot Akpan Afaha Village in Akwa Ibom State, has been arrested following allegations that he terrorized his family and neighbors with a firearm. The suspect’s spouse revealed that he frequently brandished a single-barrel gun to threaten her and their children whenever he became agitated.
Police spokesperson Timfon John confirmed that officers apprehended George after receiving intelligence regarding his illegal possession of a weapon. A subsequent search of his property resulted in the discovery of one single-barrel shotgun and eight live cartridges hidden inside the home.
During questioning, the suspect’s wife provided a statement corroborating that he used the weapon to intimidate the local community and his own household. Authorities have secured the firearm and ammunition as evidence. An investigation is currently underway to identify how George obtained the weapon and whether it has been linked to previous criminal acts. Commissioner of Police Mohammed Azare reaffirmed the department’s dedication to curbing illegal arms trafficking and prosecuting those who use weapons to endanger public safety.
