Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has initiated an official inquiry into the actions of officers recently recorded in a controversial video. The footage, filmed on the Lagos-Benin Expressway, shows police personnel engaging in unprofessional behavior during a routine check.
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police has been instructed to lead a transparent investigation to hold those responsible accountable. CSP Aniete Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed in a Saturday statement that public frustration grew after the video circulated, showing officers using offensive ethnic slurs and treating a citizen poorly.
Four officers—one Assistant Superintendent and three Inspectors—have been apprehended and await an internal trial. The Inspector-General emphasized that these actions contradict the professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force. The organization strictly prohibits ethnic profiling and discriminatory treatment. Authorities have reiterated their promise to maintain ethical policing and restore public trust through rigorous disciplinary action.
