The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man, identified as Abdulmumini Garba, over the death of a food vendor, Falmata Abubakar, in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, who serves as the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Karasuwa Local Government, was arrested following the discovery of the woman’s body last Friday, October 17, near the Federal University, Gashua.

Police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

According to Abdulkarim, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim’s body had been transported in a vehicle and dumped close to the university premises.

He said Garba confessed to having conveyed the deceased in his vehicle before an argument broke out between them over her request for financial assistance to support her business.

“The suspect disclosed that during the altercation, the woman died, after which he disposed of her body in a bush near the Federal University, Gashua,” the police statement read.

The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with residents demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the late Falmata.

Police authorities said further investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
