Peter Azi, who previously served as the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, has died. John Azi, a relative, confirmed the news to reporters in Jos on Friday.
According to the family, the former lawmaker passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The cause of death was not specified in the official announcement. A statement from the Azi Ajang family expressed their submission to the will of God regarding the loss of their relative.
Azi formerly served as the representative for the Jos North-West constituency within the state assembly. He attained the position of Speaker for the eighth Assembly in June 2015 while representing the All Progressives Congress. He held this leadership role for three years until his colleagues voted for his removal in July 2018.
