The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially launched a National Reconciliation Committee in Abuja to address internal conflicts following its recent congresses and primary elections. Committee Chairman Prof. Pat Utomi emphasized that the initiative aims to unite the party for the broader objective of national progress. Utomi argued that Nigeria must transcend internal political bickering to restore its influence on the African continent, warning that prioritizing personal ambition over national welfare hinders development.
Highlighting the continent’s untapped economic potential and youth demographic, Utomi encouraged party members to adopt the spirit of Ubuntu. He assured aspirants that those who missed out on nominations would still find meaningful roles in the party’s mission to reshape the country. Meanwhile, Co-Chairman Alhaji Buba Galadima noted that many disputes stemmed from problematic clauses in the current Electoral Act, which complicates candidate selection for opposition groups. He urged dissatisfied members to prioritize party unity and national interest.
NDC National Chairman Senator Cleopas Moses stated that the committee is tasked with restoring internal confidence following the rapid expansion of the six-month-old party. Moses criticized the current administration’s record on security and economic management, presenting the NDC as a viable alternative for citizens. He highlighted presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as symbols of a larger movement aimed at national renewal rather than mere individual success.
