Pair of politically connected detainees flee Adamawa correctional facility

Two politically connected suspects have escaped from the Jimeta Custodial Centre in Yola, prompting a joint manhunt by security agencies while prison officials remain silent on the incident.

Two individuals identified as politically connected suspects have reportedly broken out of the Security Custodial Centre located in Jimeta, Yola. Law enforcement agencies have initiated an extensive search to capture these escapees, who had been held at the facility for roughly three weeks following an operation against political agitators in the Mubi region.

This security campaign was ordered by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who demanded the liquidation of criminal networks linked to local violence. The governor, who previously pledged to hold perpetrators of regional instability accountable, is reportedly outraged by this breach of security. In response to his demands, personnel from the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are actively pursuing the fugitives.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has avoided addressing inquiries regarding the escape. Local journalists attempting to obtain details from the Yola headquarters have faced consistent stonewalling. Officials including state Comptroller Abduljalil Odunlami Ajani and the Deputy Public Relations Officer have either been unavailable or have refused to provide official commentary on the situation, leaving the circumstances of the disappearance unclear.
