Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde revealed on Friday that he faced accusations of masterminding the recent abduction of students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area. Speaking at the inauguration of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry held at the Secretariat in Ibadan, Makinde stated that the panel was established partly to refute these malicious claims.
The Governor emphasized that the May 15, 2026, incident in the Esiele and Yawata communities represented a broader assault on the safety of Nigerian students and parental trust. He tasked the commission with conducting an independent investigation to uncover operational failures and provide actionable recommendations to stop future occurrences.
Makinde expressed relief over the safe return of the victims but insisted that rescue efforts are only the first step. He maintained that true closure requires accountability and a commitment to ensuring that innocent citizens are protected from such threats in the future.
