The Young Progressive Party in Osun State has officially clarified that it has no connection to a faction calling itself the YPP Decampees Group, which recently aligned with the All Progressives Congress. This announcement follows reports from an APC campaign event held in Ede, where the party stated that the individuals involved do not speak for the YPP regarding the upcoming August 15, 2026, governorship election.
Animasahun Saheed, the State Publicity Secretary, released a statement on Tuesday after consulting with the State Working Committee, local executives, and various stakeholders. The leadership emphasized that the YPP maintains active and unified operations across all 30 local government areas in the state. Furthermore, the party clarified that any individual who leaves for another political group forfeits their membership, meaning they lack the authority to act or negotiate on behalf of the YPP.
The party leadership explicitly stated that the titles and names used by the speakers at the APC event are unrecognized by the official party hierarchy. Regarding its future, the YPP asserted that it is not engaged in any merger negotiations. Instead, the party remains focused on its own platform, prioritizing accountability and transparency as it prepares to field candidates for the 2026 gubernatorial race to promote its Prosperity Agenda.
The organization has labeled the claims made at the APC rally as misleading and attributed the actions to Alexander-Roast Tadenikawo Adeleke and other dissatisfied former members. Supporters and the general public have been encouraged to ignore these claims and continue supporting the party’s official initiatives.
