Christopher Imumolen, the 2023 presidential standard-bearer for the Accord party, has publicly endorsed Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial race. Making his announcement on Thursday during the final APC campaign event in Osogbo, Imumolen stated he was acting in his capacity as the national chairman of an Accord faction.
Imumolen confirmed that his faction has retracted its previous backing of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, instructing all party members in Osun to cast their ballots for Oyebamiji this Saturday. Conversely, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) maintains that the leadership of Maxwell Mgbudem is the legitimate authority for the Accord party, and that group remains committed to supporting Adeleke for re-election.
Previously, Imumolen abandoned his 2027 presidential aspirations to align with President Bola Tinubu, citing a preference for national stability and progress over his own political objectives. The official Osun governorship election date is set for Saturday, August 15.
