Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Iniedu, has announced that quasi-security groups, including the Amotekun corps and local hunters, are prohibited from performing security roles during the upcoming Osun State governorship election this Saturday. During a Thursday meeting in Osogbo, Iniedu clarified that the Nigeria Police Force is exclusively coordinating with constitutionally authorized agencies.
To manage security, 15,000 personnel from combat and tactical units have been stationed throughout the state. Each local government area will be supervised by a Commissioner of Police, a Deputy Commissioner, and a Police Mobile Force Commander. Additionally, the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters in Osogbo will receive support from a dedicated PMF unit.
Strategic deployment includes assigning four officers to every polling unit. Aerial monitoring will be conducted via police helicopters and drones throughout the duration of the event. Iniedu emphasized the presence of mobile courts to address electoral offenses and encouraged parents to caution their children against participating in any illegal activities.
