President Bola Tinubu has appealed to faith leaders to actively condemn kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, and the exploitation of religion to facilitate violence. Speaking through Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume at the Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani in Kano, the President emphasized that spiritual figures hold a vital position in battling extremism.
The President encouraged these leaders to prioritize peace education, religious understanding, and the ethical upbringing of the youth. He urged them to leverage their platforms to advocate for compassion, fairness, and the non-violent handling of disputes. According to Tinubu, clergy members must remind both political figures and the public that legitimate complaints do not justify criminal behavior. He concluded by asserting that true devotion to the divine cannot be achieved by harming those whose lives are considered sacred.
