Ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, major candidates participated in a town hall meeting in Osogbo to outline their governance strategies. The event featured Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord party, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Olajide Esan of the African Action Congress (AAC).
Governor Adeleke dismissed concerns regarding federal interference, labeling himself a determined leader focused on infrastructure and social development. He cited the completion of road projects, the rehabilitation of 200 healthcare centers, and the distribution of agricultural equipment as evidence of his performance. He also denied claims of militarizing the state, emphasizing his commitment to a transparent electoral process.
In contrast, APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji criticized the current administration for its management of state finances. He argued that the government failed to account for significant federal allocations and disputed the claim that his party lacked funds upon leaving office. Oyebamiji pledged to prioritize poverty reduction, agricultural investment, and human capital development if elected.
Dr. Najeem Salaam of the ADC highlighted his academic background in political science and his focus on restoring peace by eliminating political violence. He positioned himself as a candidate capable of building upon past successes while addressing current governance gaps. Meanwhile, Olajide Esan of the AAC proposed a governance model centered on transparency. He advocated for a resident database and a financial tracking dashboard to ensure citizens can monitor government expenditures and hold officials accountable.
