Osun Governorship Candidate Calls for Crackdown on Election Violence

Zenith Labour Party candidate Olufemi Adesuyi is calling on security forces to hold political violence perpetrators accountable ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.

Olufemi Adesuyi, the Zenith Labour Party candidate for the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial race, has implored security services to boost their efforts in stopping political unrest before the August 15 election. In a statement released Wednesday in Osogbo, Adesuyi voiced his alarm regarding the surge in violent activity and demanded that law enforcement officials deal firmly with those responsible.

He specifically tasked the Nigeria Police Force and other regional security outfits with maintaining order. Adesuyi insisted that anyone participating in violence must face prosecution, irrespective of their political ties. He warned that the rise in attacks is damaging to both public security and the integrity of the democratic process, potentially undermining the legitimacy of the vote.

The candidate emphasized that politics should be based on service and ideas, rather than becoming a source of danger. He urged his peers to prioritize the well-being of the state over personal ambition, reminding them that power is temporary. He called for a campaign season defined by respect and decorum, encouraging citizens to head to the polls despite existing security anxieties. These remarks follow a rise in violent incidents that recently drew the attention of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu.
