The Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) officially announced that an individual initially suspected of terrorism has been cleared of all wrongdoing. A thorough investigation confirmed the man had no ties to any insurgent groups.
This update addresses news reports from July 14, 2026, which claimed a suspect was detained by 68 Battalion soldiers following an incident at Cross Kauwa. Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for the task force, identified the man as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, often referred to as Houdairi.
Goni noted that troops followed standard protocols by detaining Zein-Nur for screening, a necessary measure given that extremist groups frequently exploit border regions for logistics. However, detailed intelligence analysis found no evidence linking the individual to terrorist networks.
The investigation determined that Zein-Nur is a camel herder from Shattu Anguba Village in the Republic of Niger who operates near the Komadougou River. Consequently, the military has fully cleared him of suspicion.
The Theatre Command emphasized that all individuals detained during tactical operations undergo rigorous vetting to ensure innocent civilians are protected. The force reiterated its dedication to upholding human rights and the rule of law while neutralizing security threats.
