Violence Disrupts APC Senatorial Primaries in Ondo
The All Progressives Congress senatorial primaries in Ondo Central District were interrupted on Monday after political thugs invaded several voting centers. The violence began at Ward 5 on Amudipe Street, Akure, targeting supporters of the incumbent, Senator Adeniyi Adegbomire.
Assailants firing weapons into the air and at the senator’s vehicle forced security personnel to evacuate him from the site. Witnesses, including pupils from a nearby primary school, traders, and members of the press, fled as the gunmen brandished machetes and assaulted voters.
Senator Adegbomire described the incident as a deliberate attempt to sabotage an election process he claimed was already turning in his favor. He alleged that opposing forces used intimidation tactics throughout the district to prevent his supporters from reaching the polling stations. The senator stated he observed the counting process before the disruption, noting that his supporters were in the lead when the attackers appeared.
