Oladipupo Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate for Ogun State in 2027, recently stated that national development is impossible until current security issues are resolved. During a Monday media event in Abeokuta, he emphasized that protecting lives and property is the foundation of prosperity and remains his top priority.
Adebutu recognized the media’s vital role in government accountability, noting that journalists are currently working under strenuous conditions in Nigeria. He encouraged the press to maintain impartiality as the 2027 general elections approach, anticipating that political rhetoric will soon grow more aggressive.
Lateefah Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, a veteran journalist and the party’s deputy gubernatorial candidate, echoed these sentiments. She urged reporters to remain brave and unbiased, suggesting that fair journalism is essential for stabilizing the political climate. Furthermore, Ogun Central Senatorial candidate Iyabo Obasanjo criticized the current state of affairs, noting that while Ogun is an industrial hub, the average citizen sees little benefit. She called for the media to keep political figures answerable to the public. Party chairman Abayomi Tella concluded by stating that the PDP has revitalized its platform and is prepared for future success.
