The Ogun State Government has officially refuted a viral online report suggesting that members of the State Executive Council are forced to prostrate before Governor Dapo Abiodun as a form of apology. A statement released by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, labeled the article published by the blog Naijamixed as a malicious fabrication designed to spread misinformation.
Akinmade explicitly denied that any commissioner or government official, including the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, had ever been ordered to prostrate before the Governor. He characterized the report as irresponsible journalism that relies on sensationalism rather than verified facts.
According to the government, the blog misinterpreted a past event where local government chairmen voluntarily prostrated themselves as a cultural gesture to seek forgiveness for a colleague, following accusations made by former Ijebu East Local Government Chairman, Hon. Wale Adedayo. Akinmade clarified that Governor Abiodun did not request or encourage this behavior. Furthermore, he noted that the Ogun State House of Assembly had previously cleared the state government of allegations regarding the mismanagement of local government funds.
The administration has urged the public to dismiss the report and called on security agencies to investigate the source of the misinformation. The government reiterated its dedication to transparent governance and warned that it would not tolerate efforts to incite public unrest through false claims.
