Nineteen individuals were transported to medical facilities after reports of a potent, irritating smell at the Ginza 6 luxury mall in Tokyo. Law enforcement officials state that an unidentified man deployed an irritant spray, suspected to be capsaicin, near an ATM on the ground level of the complex this past Monday.
Witnesses in the immediate vicinity experienced throat irritation and numbness. One 70-year-old visitor described the sensation as a stinging pain that occurred upon entering the ATM area. The authorities have not yet apprehended the suspect, and a search operation is currently underway, as reported by NHK.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, maintained a heavy presence at the site. The area surrounding the entrance was restricted, and responders in protective hazmat gear assisted in evacuating individuals from the building. Tarp screens were utilized to cordon off sections of the mall during the investigation.
