Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for turning the Abuja City Gate into a prominent recreational site. During a recent ceremony, she lauded the FCT administration for its commitment to environmental restoration, noting that the project aligns with the goals of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Green Nigeria Challenge.
Senator Tinubu expressed amazement at the finished project, especially given that a 50 million Naira prize offered for a similar state-level competition aimed at cleaning up abandoned spaces saw no participants. The First Lady intended for that initiative to engage youth in repurposing neglected sites into parks or gardens to improve community health.
She highlighted the renovated City Gate as a perfect example of how forgotten public land can be converted into a welcoming landmark. During the event, she also urged the wives of state governors to encourage youth participation in school environmental clubs and sustainability groups, citing her own positive experiences with youth environmental programs during her student years.
Addressing the crowd, Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of fostering youth involvement in national development and environmental care. In response, Minister Nyesom Wike credited the First Lady for the project, stating that her vision inspired the FCT to pursue the green transformation and create better public spaces for residents.
