Nigerian Navy Quells Fire at Kirikiri Correctional Facility
On April 22, 2026, the Nigerian Navy successfully halted a fire at the Nigerian Correctional Service Quarters in Kirikiri, Lagos.
The blaze began around 11:00 p.m. in a residential building, likely ignited by a gas cylinder explosion that spread to an adjacent structure.
Captain AA Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, reported that personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship WEY and the Naval Ordnance Depot deployed two fire trucks to the scene immediately.
The naval team effectively controlled the flames before the arrival of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
While two structures sustained damage and personal belongings were destroyed, officials confirmed there were no injuries or deaths.
The Navy commended the rapid actions of its personnel for preventing a larger catastrophe and stressed the importance of following fire safety protocols. The institution remains dedicated to supporting civil authorities during emergency situations to safeguard life and property.
