Nigerian Navy Captures Alleged Vehicle Theft Syndicate Member in Abuja

Nigerian Navy officials have arrested a suspect connected to a ring responsible for stealing over 50 vehicles in Abuja, with efforts now underway to track down the remaining accomplices.

The Nigerian Navy has apprehended an individual suspected of being part of a criminal gang involved in the theft of over 50 vehicles within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This arrest was confirmed on Thursday in Abuja by Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information.

Personnel from the Naval Base Abuja executed the operation as part of a broader strategy to enhance security in the capital through intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation. The suspect was caught while trying to exit the FCT region.

According to the Navy, the individual posed as an Inspector with the Nigerian Correctional Service to carry out illegal activities. Under questioning, the suspect admitted to participating in a syndicate that systematically targeted vehicles throughout the area. Investigations suggest this group moves stolen assets across state lines to be sold by partners located outside the FCT.

Authorities are working to track down remaining members of the network. The detained suspect, along with collected evidence, has been transferred to the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force to face legal proceedings. The Navy emphasized its ongoing dedication to collaborating with other security branches to uphold public safety.
