Nigerian Army forces have successfully captured three individuals accused of participating in a fatal ambush that resulted in the death of a soldier last May. This operation, detailed by security expert Zagazola Makama, involved a multi-state effort across Rivers, Delta, and Imo.
The investigation began after a May 4, 2026, attack where gunmen killed one soldier and stole military gear. Intelligence gathered by the 34 Artillery Brigade during Operation UDO KA eventually pinpointed the suspects as Albert Tony, Temple Eburua, and Vitalis Eburua. An accomplice named Mr. Abire was initially caught in Port Harcourt on July 30, and his testimony directed troops to the main suspects in Oleh, Delta State.
Following their arrest on July 31, the detainees guided soldiers to hideouts in Ohaji/Egbema and Umudike Plantation. These locations contained a cache of stolen military hardware, including an AK-47 rifle, an FN rifle, and various ammunition. Authorities also seized additional weaponry, such as three more AK-47s and a pistol. The suspects remain in military custody for further questioning as the search for other network members continues.
