Soldiers from the 34 Artillery Brigade, part of Operation UDO KA, have located a shallow grave and recovered the body of Chief Ibe Anyadu from the Aggah community. This discovery was announced on Monday by Lt-Col Olabisi Ayeni, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division.
Chief Anyadu was killed by members of a criminal syndicate who were recently captured for various violent offenses in the area. The breakthrough occurred after military intelligence operations led to the arrest of individuals linked to the death of a soldier and the theft of military firearms. Under questioning, one suspect admitted to participating in the murder and directed personnel to the burial site.
On August 2, 2026, troops followed the suspect to a forested area in Umudike. The exhumation process was carried out while family members, local vigilantes, and representatives from the Aggah and Umudike communities watched. The deceased’s family arranged for a coffin and transport to facilitate a traditional burial.
Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, the commander of the Joint Task Force South-East, expressed sympathy for the bereaved family. He stated that the suspects will face legal proceedings in line with Nigerian law. The military command continues to focus on neutralizing criminal groups and urged the public to provide intelligence to assist in maintaining regional security.
