Colonel Abdussalam Ude, a serving officer in the Nigerian Army, was killed by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Kurudu, Abuja. The assault took place on Monday evening shortly after the officer arrived home.
Witnesses suggest the attackers intended to kidnap the officer or his relatives. During the confrontation, Colonel Ude was killed, while his wife, driver, and personal security guard suffered gunshot wounds. The survivors are currently receiving medical care.
While the motive for the attack is not yet known, military authorities and security agencies have launched an investigation. Colonel Ude, an Enugu State native, was an intelligence specialist who served in the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps. Throughout his career, he held key counter-terrorism roles and conducted operations in the North-East, as well as missions in Chad and France.
Colleagues remembered him as a highly committed and professional officer. The Nigerian Army has yet to provide an official statement regarding the event as inquiries continue.
