The Niger State Police Command has apprehended two men in connection with the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old boy in Mariga Local Government Area, and separately arrested three motorcycle theft suspects in Kontagora.

Police spokesman SP Wasiu Abiodun said the case began on July 24, 2025, when 10-year-old Yaseer Mustapha was kidnapped from Kwana-Mariga.

His guardian, who was working on the farm, later received a ₦3.5 million ransom demand. After negotiations, he paid ₦100,000 and later ₦10,000 to one Abdulmajid Dan-Azumi but heard nothing further from the abductors.

The matter was reported to police in September and transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. Investigators arrested Dan-Azumi, 32, whose confession led to the arrest of 18-year-old Abdulnafiu Usman.

Both suspects admitted to killing Yaseer and burying his body in an uncompleted building. The remains were recovered and released to the family for burial. The suspects have been charged in court.
