On Monday, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and its associated labor union issued a joint statement rejecting claims of an upcoming strike. Both parties labeled the online reports as inaccurate, emphasizing that the organization remains stable and harmonious.
The council also refuted accusations regarding the hiring of new directors, as well as claims of nepotism and bias within the agency. These clarifications emerged after a formal meeting between the NEPC management and the leadership of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), NEPC Unit.
Aliu Sadiq, the Head of Corporate Communications for the council, released a formal statement advising exporters and the public to ignore the rumors of work stoppages. He asserted that no strike had been planned or authorized by the staff.
Moruf Ogunlana, the ASCSN NEPC Unit chairman, corroborated this stance, stating that the union was unaware of any such industrial action and distanced itself from the misleading media reports. Regarding personnel matters, management confirmed that no new directors have been appointed. Instead, the council plans to continue operating under its current structure while focusing on skill development and capacity building for existing employees.
