Agents from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully blocked drug shipments destined for China and Italy on July 30, 2026. Working through a logistics firm in Lagos, officials discovered 250 grams of cocaine tucked inside a traditional mortar and 500 grams hidden beneath the lining of a backpack.
The agency also reported several arrests across Nigeria. In Rivers State, officers captured Ugo Gift Okonkwo, 38, in Port Harcourt with a stash of cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, and various prescription pills. Meanwhile, in Anambra State, a driver named Chinedu Nwanze, 40, was taken into custody after a search of his truck revealed 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup.
Further enforcement actions took place in Delta, Nasarawa, and Zamfara. In Delta, authorities seized nearly 2 kilograms of skunk from a bus, while in Nasarawa, a 64-year-old man named Joseph Nwaeke was apprehended with 68kg of skunk and methamphetamine. In Zamfara, Sani Umar, 27, was caught on the Zaria-Gusau highway carrying 7,400 tramadol pills.
Beyond these enforcement activities, the agency continued its nationwide drug awareness campaign, conducting educational lectures at various schools and transit hubs. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), praised the officers for their diligence and urged them to maintain their focus on both enforcement and prevention.
