NBA Calls for Urgent Release of Abducted Kebbi High Court Judge

The Nigerian Bar Association has demanded the immediate rescue of Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, who was kidnapped from his residence in Kebbi State.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has officially condemned the kidnapping of Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, a judge at the Kebbi State High Court. The organization labeled the act a severe violation of the judiciary and the integrity of the law.

NBA President Afam Osigwe, SAN, issued a formal statement demanding the judge be freed instantly and without conditions. Osigwe noted that the abduction from the judge’s home in Bunza Local Government Area poses a significant threat to the legal system and highlights the growing security risks faced by judicial staff in Nigeria.

The association has called upon top security leaders, including the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the DSS, to coordinate an urgent rescue operation. Furthermore, the NBA urged the Kebbi State Government to cooperate with federal forces to recover the judge and apprehend his kidnappers.

According to the NBA, the rise in attacks against judicial officers threatens public faith in the justice system. The association stressed that judges must be provided with adequate protection to ensure they can fulfill their duties free from fear. The NBA expressed its support for the victim and his family, emphasizing the need for his swift and safe return.
